Über die Veranstaltung
The Ariadne project "Terullala: Der Kopf der Ariadne!" breaks all boundaries. The "spectacle in 8 pictures" combines mythology and modernity, old and new music, magic, five bathtubs and a stabbed bull at abo@MUMUTH.
MI 29.06.2022, 6.00 p.m.
MUMUTH, György Ligeti Hall
Afterwards: Living Room in the Foyer
Thousands of years old is the story in which Ariadne gives her lover Theseus a ball of red thread to help him find his way out of the labyrinth in which the enchanted bull-man Minotaur is trapped. It is a story that tells not only of love, cunning and luck, but also of betrayal and disappointment.
The music of this evening is as exciting and suspenseful as the ancient material, moving along a thread from the Renaissance to the present and from drama to vaudeville. Works by John Cage, Marios Joannou Elia, Georg Friedrich Händel, Jan Kopp, Claudio Monteverdi, Isabel Mundry, Younghi Pagh-Paan, R. Murray Schafer, Charlotte Seither, Gerhard Stäbler and Christian Utz can be heard. As a "spectacle in 8 pictures", these sound worlds are confronted with magic, five bathtubs and a stabbed bull, according to a conception by Angelika Luz.
The works will be interpreted by KUG students of the unique course "Performance Practice in Contemporary Music" (PPCM for short). As the name suggests, this involves informed performance practice for contemporary music. The corresponding professorship is held by Klangforum Wien - one of the world's leading ensembles for new music - as a collective. Since 2019, the PPCM vocal study program has also been established. This is about new ways of singing. Away from Mozart and Wagner arias, this study seeks and demonstrates approaches to vocal artistry and vocal expression that focus on the exploration of contemporary music.Responsible for PPCM vocal is German lied and opera singer Holger Falk, who has already been nominated three times for "Singer of the Year" by Opernwelt magazine.
